The human rights organizations called on President Michel Martelly to cancel the decree of August 15, 2012, appointing 6 members to an electoral council. This appointment did not include the particpation of parliament and did not conform with the Constitution of Haiti which requires 9 members for the electoral council.
Among other points, the organizations fighting for the rights of man in Haiti also added the installation of a President to the contested-Permanent Electoral Council and the installation of a director by the executive, which is unconstitutional as the electoral body should be completely independent.
