Thanks to Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Americans dedicate the month of February to the tradition of highlighting Black History. The celebrated historian dedicated his career to documenting and studying the history of his people — and he worked hard to institutionalize the practice. He not only believed that teaching and elevating black contributions in the society would bring progress for people of color, he fervently championed the complete telling of American history as a necessity for the progress of the nation. For that, he’s revered by many, and received several accolades — his home in Washington D.C. is now a national historic site. | The Haitian Times
